Two seperate interlocking switches are provided to change the direction of current in the coil. The visitor has to wait for the needles to settle as we have used standard compass without any extra damping arrangement.
0.8mm copper disc is used with slots cut with a saw. It is then pasted to a 4mm fibre glass disc. Metal carbon brush is used for the contact. Power supply consists of 'Layer' grounded transformer with ELCB to trip in case of any leakage. A SS resistor is connected in series to limit the current in case of short circuit. To avoid overheating of the power supply a timer is used to control the exhibit time. Magnets used are from old Winchister Hard drives with poles rearranged.
A 100mm compass is mounted inside a 200 mm dia coil. A power supply is provided along with a potentiometer to control the current. The assembly is housed in an acrylic enclosure for safety.
